Planner World Changes

Planner World Changes

We started Knockout Print Shop in September of 2015 and boy has the planner industry and community changed a lot since then!

Shift to Functional Planning

While there are planner lovers out there who still love the decorative style of planning, we've seen a big shift towards a more functional style.  In fact, as planner users opt for Mildliner highlighters, Tombow markers and a great gel pen, we find people use less planner stickers than in the past.

As a planner sticker shop we've definitely felt this style shift in our sales, but as a planner user I can relate to the desire to use my planner in an increasingly functional, less decorative way.

Despite our sales not being what they use to be, we have no plans to close up shop. Knockout Print Shop has gone from our sole form of income to a great side hustle. And as Matt and I have always said from the beginning, "we will ride this wave until it crashes" LOL. We appreciate all of you who have and continue to shop and support Knockout Print Shop.

Planner Options Increased

Along with the shift in planning style, there has been a huge increase in planner options since 2015.  Gone are the days of Erin Condren being the only option, now the possibilities are endless when it comes to finding your perfect planner.  In fact, the hunt for planner peace is harder than ever, with new planners popping on the scene every year!

From bullet journaling and Hobonichi to Makselife, Plum Paper and more, there's a planner for everyone!

Knockout Print Shop's Specialities

As you know here at Knockout Print Shop we design functional planner stickers for Makselife, Hobonichi Cousin and Inkwell Press.  While our stickers, especially the icon style stickers, can work in any planner you use, we specialize in helping you customize those three planners.

We've had requests to make stickers for various new planners, but at the moment we have no plans to expand our product line to offering stickers designed for other planners. Unfortunately, with our farm and my full-time job we just don't have enough hours in the day to focus on branching out to new planners.

We love and appreciate that so many of you have found ways to use our stickers even when the planner you use has changed from the planners we make stickers for.

Tell Us What You Want

So when it comes to the Makselife, Hobonichi Cousin and Inkwell Press planners... we'd would love to know what stickers you'd like to see us add to our collections for 2023.

As trends have shifted, we want to be sure we are creating exactly what you need to make your planner work for you! And since we are no longer on social media, we are a bit out of the planner community and trend loop.

Planner Community Changes

Back in 2015, the planner community felt connected and engaged. Tons of sharing and inspiration was circling the social media platforms.  It was easy to find your people in Facebook Groups for the planner you used and surf through Instagram and YouTube to find ideas, tips and more.

Fast forward to 2022 and I feel like things have changed. I've heard through the grapevine, the changes to social media (algorithms and the like) have made the way the planner community connects a bit different than it was in the past.

I personally left social media personally and professionally (other than YouTube) in March of 2022 and have no plans of ever going back. It just lost its luster for me personally and I felt like it wasn't worth the crazy amount of effort it took business wise.

While I miss connecting with you all and I wish there was a way to do that without Facebook or Instagram, I hope my blogs and videos at least give us a little bit of community, inspiration and connection.

Thoughts

I'm personally a functional planner and appreciate the shift to a simple, clean, functional planner style. But I do love seeing the beautiful spreads of the decorative planners in the community. So please feel free to send me pics of your functional or decorative spreads anytime! I'd love to find ways to share your creativity with our planner community!

So what are your thoughts on the shift in planning style and the planner community? Let me know below!
